A Luxury Harbour-View Pod in Akaroa: Custom-Built as an Airbnb Retreat and Owners’ Bach
Some sites deserve a building that makes the most of them. This custom luxury pod, built by Cosy Cabins for a hillside overlooking the harbour at Akaroa, is designed to do exactly that.
It is a one-bedroom pod with a fully fitted kitchenette and a tiled bathroom, created as an ultra high-end Airbnb and as a private bach for its owners. Every surface was chosen so the pod feels warm, calm and inviting from the moment the door opens. A 4 m stacking door opens the living area to the outdoors, custom oak finishes warm the interior, and a steel trailer frame places the build in the tiny home category.

1. A Striking Black Exterior
Classic black Weathertex cladding gives the pod a bold, contemporary look that sits beautifully in a coastal landscape. Large windows draw natural light deep into the interior and frame the view, so the pod feels open and connected to its surroundings.
Underneath, a steel trailer frame places the pod in the tiny home category, giving the owners flexibility and a robust base for the build.

2. A 4 m Stacking Door for Indoor-Outdoor Living
The centrepiece of the living space is a 4 m stacking door. Open it and the pod and its outdoor area become one space, with the fresh Akaroa air and the harbour outlook flowing straight in. Close it and the large glazing keeps the interior bright all day.
For Airbnb guests it creates the moment they remember: a morning coffee with the doors wide open and the harbour just beyond.

3. Warm Custom Oak Interiors
A custom oak finish runs through the pod, giving it the feel of a beautifully made piece of furniture. A custom wardrobe keeps the sleeping area uncluttered, and electric roller blinds let guests adjust light and privacy at the touch of a button.
The custom kitchenette brings everything a stay needs into a compact footprint, with filtered water on tap and gas hot water for a steady, reliable supply.

4. A Tiled Bathroom Worth Staying For
The bathroom is fully tiled in charcoal, set against warm timber walls. The result is a spa-like space that feels generous despite its size, with a heated towel rail and matte black fittings to finish it.
Large-format slate-look tiles keep the lines clean and the upkeep simple, which suits a busy Airbnb as much as a private bach.

5. Cosy Nights, Year Round
A well-insulated building holds its warmth, so this pod is built with high R-value construction throughout. Insulation, airtight building and quality glazing work together to keep the heat in on cold peninsula nights and the interior comfortable through summer.
Guests and owners both arrive to a pod that is warm, quiet and cosy, whatever the weather is doing outside.
6. Built by Cosy Cabins, Delivered to Akaroa
Every part of this pod was designed and built by the Cosy Cabins team, with quality checked at each stage. Once complete, the pod travelled to Akaroa with fully insured transport and arrived ready for its site.
